Fort Valley
Beautiful Fort Valley, Virginia is located a short 90 minute ride
from the Metropolitan Washington D.C. area. Fort Valley is a sleepy, peaceful valley located between Front Royal and Woodstock, Va and is completely surrounded by George Washington National Forest. 'The Fort' as locals call it, is unspoiled in its natural beauty, wildlife and the
wonders of nature abound.
Activities include some of the best trout fishing around. Both Passage Creek and Little Passage Creek are stocked with Rainbow, Brown, and Brook trout by the state.
Fort Valley is also home for unique sporting events. The 100 mile One Day Endurance Run is held here annually, as well as the 100 mile Endurance Horse race. This is an international event drawing visitors and competitors from around the world.
The Fort Valley Volunteer Fire Department has Pancake and Sausage breakfasts, and Country Ham and Oyster Dinners occasionally throughout the year. Somewhat famous for their good food and family atmosphere, people come from miles around. Sometimes these dinners serve in excess of a thousand people.
Hang gliders, para-sailers, and mountain-bikers make frequent use of the forest. Particularly popular for the hang gliders, as a take off point, is nearby Woodstock Tower Overlook.
Driving Directions:
From Northern Virginia/Washington D.C.
Take I-66 West to Exit #6 and turn left. Go 1.2 miles to the intersection of 340 and 55. Turn right on Route 55W and go 5.4 miles to intersection of 55 and 678 (Waterlick Grocery store on left). Turn left onto Rt. 678 and travel 28 miles to intersection of 675 and 678 (Kings Crossing).
From I-81 North or South
Take exit 279 (Edinburgh) and go east to Rt.11. Turn left an the intersection onto Rt. 11. Travel 1.0 mile to Rt. 675 (Jeep/Eagle dealership on right). Turn right and stay on 675 for 6 miles to intersection of 675 and 678 (Kings Crossing).
